The sun is out and spring has finally arrived. The weather is warming up and homeowners are starting to plan their home improvement projects this year. While many may wait until summer or even fall, spring is the best of the year for home improvement, especially for roofing repair projects. What are you waiting for? Now is always the best time to fix lingering roofing issues!

The Best Time To Fix Your Roof Is Now!

Your roof is not a project that can be left for a rainy day (literally). If your roof has taken a beating this winter, you’ve noticed a leak or some missing shingles, then now is the time to take action. If you delay and delay and put a roofing repair project on the back burner, you risk getting burned. If you wait too long a simple repair could end up costing you more money and headache. Roofing issues tend to get worse over time. Dealing with them now allows you to put your roofing problems in the past.

Top 4 Reasons Spring is The Ideal Time For Roofing Repair Projects

If you are still thinking about doing some roof repairs this spring, we’ve put together some reasons to sway you to take action now. Here are the top 4 reasons spring is the best time to handle your roofing repair projects:

Identify issues caused over the winter

The cold temperatures, ice, snow and freezing wind can all cause damage to your roof, especially older roofs in need of replacement. Addressing your roofing issue in spring allows you to quickly fix the issues before they become a bigger problem. A minor leak that may have developed over the winter could turn into a huge issue once the spring and summer rain falls. Leaks only get worse.

It’s ideal weather for repairs

The temperature matters. The spring is the ideal time for using roofing materials. The installation of shingles and other roofing materials react best to weather conditions in spring – it’s not too hot or too cold. This allows your roof repairs to be more effective and efficient. The temperature will have less impact on the integrity of the roofing materials being used.

Time is on your side

While you may have identified a potential roof repair, you never know what you may find until a professional takes a look at your roof. The damage could be more extensive than you first anticipated. Addressing roofing issues in spring affords you more time and flexibility to deal with unforeseen issues. If your quick roof repair turns into a full replacement job, you will have the time to properly plan and prepare for it.

It’s easier to schedule roof repair

Spring tends to be a little quieter than the summer and fall months. You tend to have fewer plans and roofing companies have more flexibility in their schedules. During the spring there is more flexibility in scheduling. You can plan around your summer vacation and days off and have your choice of appointment options.

Give us a call and we may be able to fit you in for your repair quicker than you think. Plus, if you wait too long, you may have to end up waiting to get your roof repaired. Our schedule books up quickly so taking action in spring is best.

Get A FREE Estimate For Roofing Repairs

Are you ready to get those roofing repairs out of the way this spring?

If you notice issues with your roof, now is always the best time to take action. Our experienced team can help you with all our roof repair needs – new shingles, leak repair and detection, and much more.

Get your project started by calling us for a free estimate today – 416-917-9622. Don’t wait – handle your roofing issue right away to minimize damage and cost.

There are two ways to check to see if your roof is leaking – from the outside and from the inside. Most homeowners, if they check their roof at all, check it from the outside. They look at the shingles, gutters and eaves to identify roofing issues. But, when was the last time you checked your roof from the inside?

Some roof leaks are not obvious from outside. The signs exist within your home. Here we will provide you with some useful and effective tips to check from the inside if your roof is leaking.

In-Home Roof Leak Inspection

The truth is roof leaks can be difficult to find. The place you find water is not often the source of the actual leak. Most roofers will tell you that if you want to find the leak, you need to think like water.

Water typically penetrates your roof in the obvious places:

Where outside roof damage exists

Roofing seams and flashing

Vents

Skylights

Chimneys

Once water actually gets into your home it will flow along the rafters in your attic and along the ceiling until it finds a place to fall. You can expect it to flow downward. This means that the source of the leak can be across the other side of the house or within a few feet of the drip depending on your roofing structure.

The attic is the best place to start your inspection. Ideally you can perform your check during the day. Since its dark in the attic if you have a hole in your roof, you’ll be able to see sunlight shining through.

If a hole is not obvious, walk around your entire attic. Identify areas that have water penetration, water marks and stains. If the presence of water is not immediate, follow the smell of water and mustiness.

If you find an area where water is dripping, use this as your starting point and work your way up the roof. Follow the trail of water, moisture and dampness.

If you can’t find the leak, you best option is to cover you roof with plastic roof covering. Better yet, call a roofing professional to help you address your roof leak.

Roof leaks are common. They happen all the time to all types of homes. Naturally, you don’t want it to happen to yours – a major reason we suggest regular roof inspections.

While most roof leaks are obvious, they occur directly after a storm or are a result of wind damage, there are instances when roof leaks exist without homeowners even knowing it.

The truth is most roof leaks are undetected until it is too late – when you find evidence of water penetration inside of your home. At this point, the leak has existed for some time and damage could be extensive. It could have also spread to multiple areas of your home.

This is particularly the case with older roofs. They are more prone to roof leaks, especially those that are in need of a re-shingling or replacement. But roof leaks can also happen on new homes or recently replaced roofs if the workmanship is not up to par.

To help homeowners manage this stressful and undesirable situation, we have put together a list of 3 essential tips to help you survive a roof leak:

Be Proactive

Being proactive and dealing with the roof leak as soon as you identify it is vital. If left unattended, it will only cause more damage to your home and potentially create more issues. Roof leaks can lead to attic and ceiling damage, cause mold and mildew to grow and affect indoor air quality, pose a threat to electrical wiring, and it will also make your home less efficient.

Be ready to address a roof leak right away. Spend some time and research what to do when you find a leak and how to address it before you can get a professional to take a look.

Leave It To The Professionals

Speaking of professionals, its best to have a professional roofing company assess your roof leak before choosing a course of action. The issue could be minor and require small repairs or it could be extensive and require a roof replacement. Always get a professional opinion before taking action.

Be Financially Prepared

A roof leak could be an expensive repair job. Therefore, it’s important for homeowners to be prepared financially for roofing and all other types of home issues. Having an emergency home fund and know what type of roofing damage and leaks are and are not covered under your home insurance plan allows you to be financially prepared for these types of situations.

Have Roofing Issues? Call Us Now!

if you notice a leak or other issues with your roof, the time to act is now. It’s vital to act quickly to minimize potential damage and reduce roof repair costs. Call us for a free estimate today – 416-917-9622.

Roof leaks and roofing issues can be two of the most expensive issues homeowners in the Greater Toronto Area face. Many times, roof leaks and issues are a result of poor winter weather and stormy conditions. While you can’t do anything about the weather, you can be practice and take steps to prepare your home for potential roof leaks.

5 Tips for Preparing Your Home for Roof Leaks Caused by Winter Weather

Follow these tips to reduce the odds of roof leaks caused by frigid winter weather in Canada:

Know Your Roof Condition

Part of your job as a homeowner is to know your home. Know your roof condition, especially if you have an older roof that may be in need of replacement within the next couple years. Inspecting your roof before winter will allow you to assess the condition of your roof and determine if action is required.

Clean Your Gutters

When was the last time you cleaned your gutters? Are you sure they are free of debris and unobstructed? Make sure you clean your gutters annually. If you are not capable of cleaning your gutters, hire a company to do it for you. Clean gutters are more important than most realize.

Check Eaves and Downspouts

Inspect your eaves trough and downspouts to make sure they are operating as they are supposed to. If you notice an issue, make sure to have it addressed as soon as possible. Never overlook the importance of proper water drainage off of your roof. If water isn’t draining properly off your roof, its likely going someone you don’t want it to go.

Make Sure Flashing Is In Good Condition

Flashing is the aluminum pieces that exist at the seams of your roof. Make sure they are properly installed and secure. They are a common source of roofing leaks. If you notice issues, have your flashing replaced. Wind and winter weather can cause damage to flashing.

Check Your Roof Insulation

Roofing insulation can play a big role in protecting your roof against leaks, ice damming, and other issues caused by winter weather. Make sure you have a good thermal barrier inside your attic to prevent the development of moisture inside your home.

Have Roofing Issues? Call Us Now!

Are you thinking about planning a roof replacement project in the near future? While now is always the best time for a roof replacement, especially if you have an older roof, there are a number of great advantages to getting your roof replaced in the spring.

Here are 6 reasons why it’s best to replace your roof at the start of the GTA’s roofing season:

Get It Over With

There is something to be said for being proactive and simply wanting to get the project over with. Booking earlier in the roofing season allows you to get your roof replaced, gives you peace of mind, and allows you to enjoy your summer without having to worry about doing your roof.

Cracked shingle

Cracked shingles are also common. This is usually a result of wind and storm damage. Again, if only a few are cracked or curled, you can simply have them replaced. But, if you notice cracked shingles across your roof, you may need a replacement.

Reduce the Odds Of Roof Damage

Taking the initiative and replacing your roof at the beginning of the roofing season in the GTA ensures that you take care of any issues that arise over the winter. If you have an older roof or have existing issues, replacing your roof at the beginning of the season reduces the odds of you experiencing significant roof damage, especially from spring storms and rainfall.

Improve Energy Efficiency Before Summer Heat

Roof leaks and vulnerabilities can affect many different areas of your home. One area in particular is your home efficiency. Replacing your roof at the beginning of the spring allows you to correct energy efficiency issue related to your roof before it gets too hot out during the summer.

It’s Not As Busy as Summer and Fall

Spring is generally a great time to contact roofing companies because they have better availability. You will have more time to plan your project and you will be able to choose an installation date that is better suited to your schedule. You can address your roofing needs at a time that is convenient for you and there is less likely going to be a scheduling delay. You will have no trouble booking a roof repair job.

You Plan To Sell Your Home

If you plan to sell your home, replacing your roof will make it more appealing to buyers. It will also increase your home value.

You Have Time To Address Unforeseen Issues

You never know for sure what you are going to find until your old shingles are removed. If unforeseen issues are found with your roof, or other areas of your home, you will have all spring, summer, and fall to create a plan and address the issues.

Be Proactive With Roofing Maintenance

Even if you are not planning to get your roof replaced, having your roof inspected during the spring is important for preventative maintenance. This can help you identify and repair issues before they become more expensive problems.

Shingles are often the first thing you notice that wears out on your roof. They are visible and on the outer surface of your entire roofing structure. How they are worn out can be just as important as if they are worn out. Depending on their current condition, a simple repair job may be in order. Or, you may need a roof replacement.

Here we outline some of the most common types of worn out shingles and if they signal the need for a roof repair or replacement:

Missing shingles

Entire shingles or sections of shingles can blow off of your roof during storms. If you notice you are missing shingles, it doesn’t necessarily mean you need a roof replacement. In most cases, a simple repair job will do the trick. But, if you notice shingles continue to fall off, then you may need a complete replacement because there may be additional issues.

Cracked shingle

Cracked shingles are also common. This is usually a result of wind and storm damage. Again, if only a few are cracked or curled, you can simply have them replaced. But, if you notice cracked shingles across your roof, you may need a replacement.

Worn off granules

Granules are the sandpaper type material that is on the outer layer of the shingles. These help protect your roof from the sun. If you notice the granules wearing off you may or may not need a roof replacement depending on the age of your roof.

Shingles covered in moss

Many homeowners get really concerned when they see moss growing on their shingles. This is actually really common and there is no need to worry. If you don’t like the look, you can wash it off with a water and bleach solution. Never use a power washer on your roof. You could cause damage to your shingles that could result in needing a re-shingling of your entire roof.

Other factors to consider

Worn out shingles are common. Depending on their condition, a roof replacement may or may not be needed. Once way to tell if you need a replacement is if other areas of your roof have issues.

Check your roof from the inside to see if there is damage to the roof structure. If you notice your roof sagging or the presence of water, you’ll need a replacement.

Do Your Shingles Look Worn Out Or Damaged? Call Us Now!

If you notice issues with your shingles, it’s important to act quickly to minimize potential damage and reduce repair costs. We can assess your shingles and roof and help you determine whether you need a roof repair or replacement. Call us for a free estimate today – 416-917-9622.

Winter storms are part of any Canadian winter. They also pose a threat to your home, and your roof in particular. If your roof is older, in need of replacing, or has vulnerable spots, a winter storm could pose even a greater risk to your home. Knowing the risks to your roof during the winter is important. This is why we’ve put together a list of the 4 common risks your roof faces during a winter storm:

Shingle Damage

The frigid temperatures can cause your shingles to harden, crack, and even break off. If ice or other flying objects hit your shingles on a cold day, there is a good chance they could be damaged, especially during a winter storm.

Leaks Causing Damage to Your 1st & 2nd Floor

Winter storms bring freezing rain, ice, snow, and moisture, all of which end up on your roof. If your roof is older, broken down, or has vulnerable spots, this water can get into your home and filter down to the second and even main level of your home. This can lead to a variety of issues including mold, structural issues, and more.

Weight Pressure from Snow Build Up

Snow and ice are heavy. Just think about how heavy snow can be when you’re shovelling your driveway. Now take all that snow and then some and add it to your roof. That is a lot of extra weight your roof has to hold. The pressure from snow build up could cause issues with your roofing structure.

Ice Dam

Ice can form on the edge of your roof and prevent melting snow from properly draining off your roof. When this happens, the water can leak into your home through improperly sealed sections of your roof. Ice dams can also lead to heat loss and add additional weight pressure to your roof. If possible, remove snow and ice from your roof to prevent ice dams from development.

We’re bound to experience a few winter storms each year. Some are big, some are small. But they can all pose a risk to your roof. Take preventative action by having your roof inspected regularly. Always check your roof after a big storm to ensure there is no damage or potential issues.

The use of solar panels in residential homes and buildings is on the rise. Costs are coming down and access to this technology is more wide spread. As a result, there are many homeowners in Canada who are now considering installing solar panels on their roof. Like many other home modifications, there are pros and cons.

Here we outline some of the pros and the cons of installing solar panels on your roof.

The Pros Of Installing Solar Panels on Your Roof

There are a number of advantages to installing solar panels on your roof. They include:

Reduce energy bill: This is the big one. Since solar panels will generate energy for your home, it will drastically reduce your energy bills. Depending on how many panels you install, you may be able to generate enough energy to take your home off the grid and actually generate a surplus of energy you can sell back to the grid.

Increase home value: Installing solar panels will immediately increase the overall value of your home. If you plan to sell your home, you will be able to list it at a higher rate and recover some of your initial investment.

Low maintenance: Contrary to what many people assume, solar panels do not require a lot of maintenance. You will need to clean them a few times per year or you can hire a company to clean and maintain them for you.

The Cons of Installing Solar Panels on Your Roof

There are a number of disadvantages to installing solar panels on your roof. They include:

Initial cost: The initial cost of investing in solar panels and installing them on your roof can be steep. Some of these upfront costs may be covered under government energy programs. It can also take some time to recover your initial investment.

Space: Solar panels can take up a lot of space. Not all roofs are ideal for housing solar panels and some modifications may be required. If your roof is too small, you may need to add solar panels in your backyard as well.

Potential roofing issues: Any time you add something to your roof or make modifications, you could create potential issues. Solar panels could add extra weight and place more pressure on your roof. Attaching solar panels create potentially new areas for water to get into your roofing structure.

If you are thinking about installing solar panels on your roof and would like to discuss your options, please give us a call to book a free consultation. We’d be happy to assess your homes fit for solar panels.
